What is lath? 

 

Lathing is a waterproofing/insulating process where we first install a waterproof wrap on the home, followed up with foam boards, and finally a wire mesh for the stucco plaster to grab onto.

 

What is stucco? 

 

Traditional stucco plaster consists of a mixture of fibrous cement, sand, water and occasionally lime. Once mixed and applied, it hardens into a stone with a 2000-3000 psi durability.  

 

What is synthetic stucco?
 

Synthetic stucco is a mixture of cement, lime, silica sand, acrylic paint and glue polymers. It is the finish coating that is applied over a brown coat or base coat. 

 

What is EIFS?

 

It is an Exterior Insulation Finishing System that is layered with foam board, fiber mesh and base coated with cementitious adhesive plaster, then top coated with synthetic stucco plaster. 

 

How can traditional stucco benefit your home?

 

The whole lath & stucco process starts by waterproofing and insulating the home with an impermeable house wrap, followed up with insulative foam boards, and finishing the lath with wire mesh for the stucco to hang onto. Once the lath is inspected and approved then the stucco can be applied in a 1-3 layer system. In a 3 coat system, the 1st layer is known as a scratch coat, 2nd layer is called a brown coat, and the 3rd layer is known as the top coat. In a two coat system, only a brown coat and top coat is applied. Fully cured stucco provides impressive strength to the exterior of your home, insulation, aesthetic value and it also increases the value of your home and reduces energy costs. 

 

How can synthetic stucco benefit your home?

 

Synthetic stucco is a desirable finish amongst many homeowners because it saves them time and money considering that it combines the final coat of stucco plaster with the painting process. Essentially completing two phases of the construction process in one application. A positive attribute for synthetic stucco is that it also helps with inevitable fractures that may appear. The cured synthetic plaster flexes with the expansion/contractions of the wall caused by the fluctuations of temperatures.

What are the benefits of clay & lime stucco?

In an interior setting, both clay and lime plaster offer beneficial chemical mechanisms such as breathability and moisture control. Clay is capable of absorbing harmful air particles, and lime is an excellent substance to control mold growth, given its high pH. A mixture of these products can provide an elegant background to a home both inside and out. Natural powder pigments can be mixed in to achieve any desired tone and a porous wax/sealer can be applied to protect the clay-lime stucco. 

 

How can I remodel my stucco home to look modern?

 

A modern sharp looking home can be achieved by pressure washing the house's exterior, rolling on a bonding agent over the existing painted stucco and then applying a sand finish or smooth finish.
